openSUSE 13.1 + Virtualization repo = lots of problem

During my preparation of network virtualization solution, I had used the openSUSE 13.1 with Virtualization repository. But it really made me a headache. But it seems the only packages from that repository are not working.

I gave up on the libvirtd bug (the verison used in Virtualization repo was 1.2.1) which didn't let me to run VLANs based networks using openvswitch.

Sometimes got errors from kernel modules:

└──> libvirt $ >> time virsh start _CORE_NEXUS-2
error: Failed to start domain _CORE_NEXUS-2
error: Unable to add port vnet0 to OVS bridge CORE: Operation not permitted

Tried also to downgrade the livirtd package contained in the Virtualization-OpenSuse_13.1 but without affects.
The error was so random, sometimes it worked but after a period of time wouldn't be able to run one of the machines.

That was not the only error/problem I had. For example I wanted to have cinnamon as my desktop, but:
  1. If you would use during installtion of OS to use only pattern "Text Server" you will fail to run cinnamon - missing packages not included in requirements
  2. Sleep and hibernate for GDM - it's crappy too. Probably you would have to use gconf and remove openSUSE(gio-branding-openSUSE) brandings which override the settings you provided.
  3.  Virtual-manager will not allow any inputs if you will get the newest libvirtd installed (but the ones from pre 1.2.1 releases worked fine)

UPDATE

Seems the only Virtualization repo had some issues, and I could back to openSUSE with the clean install. It seems it's working fine, but perviously I also could run machines sometimes. Also the important note is that the Virt-Manager coming with stable repo, it's not working well and it freeze very frequent. It was check on the default install of opensuse with KDE. But Virtualization repo works very very well, no problems with it.

To use the Virt-Maanager from Virtualization, and only this package I would suggest to use:

# OCICLI http://software.opensuse.org/ymp/Virtualization/openSUSE_13.1/virt-manager.ymp?base=openSUSE%3A13.1&query=virt-manager
# zypper modifyrepo -d Virtualization

DON'T UPDATE THE SYSTEM VIA ZYPPER DUP - IT WILL CHANGE THE REPOSITORY USED FOR VIRT-MANAGER

P.s. You could try to change the priority of the Virtualization to set value bigger than 99 which is default.

<3 openSUSE ;]
